Melmerby BEACH - Instead of bathing suits, rescue workers at one of the most popular beaches in the region are wrapped in red parkas and hoodies.
Although the air temperature reads 23C on a board, a fresh wind blowing over the beach has lifeguards dressed in winter coats, as some towels and beach lovers packaging around them to keep warm.
"Last week was really hot here and we had 1400 people on the beach," said Sam Hyson rescuer. "Today, it's cold."
But it's not just the air temperature unusually cold deter some people from visiting the beach is the water temperature 14C.
